It’s Apple Blossom Award Time Again!
Early childhood educators will be honored at the Naples Alliance for Children’s 20th Annual Dinner, Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Wyndemere Country Club. The NAFC Apple Blossom Awards acknowledge teachers who are giving care and education to infants and young children in Collier County. The awards, a symbol of appreciation for their invaluable efforts, are funded through a grant from the Henry & Betty Albrecht Advised Fund of the Community Foundation of Collier County.
The Apple Blossom Award celebrates outstanding early childhood practice in the education and care of children, infancy through age five, in Collier County, outside of the public schools. This care and education may take place in licensed child care centers that are privately owned, state subsidized, agency operated, or faith based.
The NAFC’s Apple Blossom Award focuses on the teacher regardless of the center in which the teacher works. Teachers are assessed according to the highest standards set by the profession. These standards are listed in the Award criteria. Nomination forms were mailed to all licensed centers. Forms will also be available on our web site, www.napleschild.org.
The criteria noted refer to behaviors that are possible for any teacher to develop. The NAFC evaluation team will be addressing these standards as they visit nominees in their classrooms. Feedback on the observations will be available to directors and teachers.
Parents, directors, teachers, children's service providers and support staff may make nominations. The nominees must be full time head teachers in all day centers. They must be responsible for curriculum planning and classroom management and have at least two years teaching experience, including one complete year in their current center. Center directors and employees of the Collier County Public Schools are not eligible for this award. A center will be limited to the following: 1 nominee from a center employing 1 to 8 teachers; 2 nominees from a center employing 9 to 15 teachers; 3 nominees from a center employing 16 or more teachers. Deadline for Nominations: 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2007
The Apple Blossom Teacher of the Year recipients receive a plaque, a $500 award and a decal for display at their center. The finalists receive a certificate and a $100 award. All nominees will be honored at the Annual Dinner and receive a special gift.
